let me join in the protests

Hearsay says that a number of bloggers are blogging about the demolition of the M G Road boulevard for purposes of construction of the Metro. The entire front page of the Deccan Herald’s “Metro Life” is dedicated to the topic. In the midst of all this I was also feeling left out, so I thought I should join in.

The Deccan Herald claims to offer full reports of all world cup matches despite the late finish – something like other papers such as the times of India don’t cover. The times usually gives a mid-innings report of the second batting team and leaves it at that.

So this morning’s paper says “West Indies 300. England 289/8 in 48 Overs”. Very interesting. Really don’t know why they had to keep the readers in such suspense on the last day of the world cup super eights! Maybe just to make things interesting. Maybe they wanted more people to watch TV (esp. the SET Max highlights) so they left it there. Maybe the editor wanted to have some fun. Or for all you know, the guy who reported it didn’t know that the match was not over and just put it in there.

Anyways, followign that, i switched on the TV and saw the full highlights on SET Max. One of the best games in the world cup so far. Really happy that Vaughan is back in form.

And I don’t know why, but i find it quite fitting that Lara had to get run out for a low score in his last innings. Quite summed up his brilliant but inconsistent career.

Fear

Fear is the basis for all religion.

Apart from maybe daily/regular prayers, most religious acts are not done because of the love for God, but because one is afraid of incurring His/Her wrath.?

age of marriage

It is not too hard to notice that the average age of marriage of the middle/upper middle class indian is actually falling. At least it’s lower compared to a generation back.

One reason for that may be that boys nowadays earn “well” quicker. In those days, with mostly government jobs, it took a while for the people to earn enough in order to support a wife. Hence the late marriage. However, nowadays, after the opening up of the economy, even freshers’ salaries (in certain jobs) are enough to support a family, and hence people are getting married earlier.

Ban the chinks

So it has been confirmed that the chap responsible for the massacre at Virginia Tech is a chink. Korean to be precise. And he did this after a fight with his girlfriend.

Chinks are an immoral lot, I say. First they have girlfriends, which goes against our rich culture. Second, girlfriends have the gall to ditch their boyfriends. Again thoroughly unacceptable. And last but not the least, the spurned boyfriend kills not just his girlfriend but also some 30 other innocent harmless people.

The response to this should be harsh. The least that the US government should do is to ban all chinks from studying in the US. Nothing less. These chinks will snuff out whatever morals are now left with the American kids. Down with the chinks.

If this were in our India, our government would’ve banned all foreign students from Indian campuses. And maybe given Arunachal to the Chinks. No way we would’ve tolerated such alien culture here. I sincerely hope the US government does something about it.

Update

Minal Panchal, one of the people killed in the Virginia Tech massacre, has an orkut profile. Check out her scrapbook. Has all sorts of people offering condolences. God bless them!

Yet another update

Now, there is an orkut community dedicated to the chink. I’m sure orkut will be banned in south korea soon.

PS: Just had this one doubt. Are Koreans included in “chink” (in the american context; not indian where “chink” refers to northeasterners)? Else, what are they called?

Twenty20

For the uninitiated, the inter-state Twenty20 is being played out in Bombay and Ahmedabad now. And given India’s early exit from the world cup, all the national team players (whose states are still in contention) are playing. After the BCCI’s stern steps a week ago, no one seems to be taking chances.

And the tournament is throwing up some excellent fare, such as this game. Such a pity that it isn’t being telecast!

Update

I learn that Neo Sports still has the rights to telecast it, but given that they have already telecast the minimum of 74 days of domestic cricket they are under no obligation to telecast it. Hence they are not showing it!

Such fools! With a little publicity, they could’ve minted millions from showing this. Tell me this – would you rather watch a dead rubber between Sri Lanka and Australia or a twenty over slogfest between Bombay and TN with Sachin taking on Yo and Dinesh Karthik taking on Zaheer and Agarkar!

A wonderful opportunity missed for a number of people!??

Paschima vaahini

Most of the major Indian rivers flow eastward. Of course we do have the Narmada and Tapti and the Punjabi rivers, and several smaller ones in the western ghats (Sharavathi, etc.) but most of the major ones flow eastward. To put it objectively, the total quantity of river water that is flowing eastward in India at any given point of time is much much more than the total quantity of river water that is flowing westward in India at any given point of time. This means that when a major river takes a west turn, the point is considered holy.

Full circles

When we met for the first time, my order of a mousse was met with a ?oh, I didn?t know you are such a high calorie person. I?m very calorie conscious you know. I?ll have tea -without milk or sugar?. I had quickly changed my order to a cup of cold coffee.

A year, after that, we didn?t meet, but talked frequently on the phone. She used to routinely call me ?fatso? and I used to retaliate by calling her anorexic. She would take jibes at my habit of a large late night glass of bournvita. That she ate not much but shoots and leaves left some room for retaliation.

Then we met for the second time.

We met again recently ? in a valiant attempt to try pick up the pieces. She looked as if four of her could fit easily into one pair of my jeans. The place we chose was not particularly known for its food, but the peace and serenity more than made up for that.

The set dosas soon arrived, complete with a small plate with a dollop of butter. I just looked at her eyes, and quietly kept the plate of butter aside, and dived straight into attacking the dosa. She picked up the butter in her little plate carefully applied it on her dosa. Another look into my eyes, and she picked up the butter from my plate too.

That, I thought, was a classic case of life coming round a full circle. And that it merits a mention in my blog.
